THRESHOLD WAS A PERFORMANCE DEVISED FROM THE CURFEW TOWER, NI TAKING THE WORK OF BILL DRUMMOND TITLED IT'S ALL FUCKIN SHITE AS A STARTING POINT AND AS MATERIAL.
It's All Fuckin Shite was a framed text piece explaining the act of burning the work of 30 artists who had previously carried out residencies at The Curfew Tower. The text explained how it was All Fuckin Shite and how people were invited to come back and do better. This piece stood out as having most authority within the situation of the tower with everything else being fleeting gestures and reminders of people's time there. This work was large, framed, sturdy and above the mantel.
I smashed the frame up, smashed the safety glass, cut up the text piece, burned the frame. If it is all shite, then so is this. Destruction can equalize and return us all to dust, ashes, pieces. Along with some objects collected from around Cushendall, the pieces of this broken work and a video of the burning frame I performed a ritual.
Bill Drummond has a long standing relationship with burning and destruction.
In 2010 and 2011 I devised and carried out the Manchester Artist's Bonfire- burning about 30 artists work each year (unrelated actions).
In Revive cafe in Cushendall Bill Drummond asked my advice on what to do with the ongoing works at the tower, I said to keep burning it. he said I was a bad influence. I don't aim to be a good influence
